Mammoplasty encompasses different breast procedures. Changing volume and changing the position of tissue are different goals. The type of operation is therefore determined after discussing shape, size and individual characteristics.
Types and aims
Breast augmentation
This area concerns changes in volume. The consultation covers the options, their limitations and considerations for subsequent follow-up.
Breast lift
Mastopexy aims to change the shape and position of the breasts by addressing excess skin and the surrounding tissue. On its own, it is not equivalent to an increase in volume.
Reduction and asymmetry
Questions of reducing volume and differences between the right and left sides are discussed separately, taking existing proportions and personal goals into account.

Frequently asked questions
Are implants enough if the breasts have noticeably drooped?
Breast augmentation alone does not correct pronounced drooping. A breast lift may be needed to change the position of the tissues. Augmentation and a lift are sometimes performed together and sometimes separately: during the consultation, it is important to distinguish the wish for more volume from the wish to lift the breasts.
Are breast implants placed once for a lifetime?
Breast implants are not guaranteed to last a lifetime. Further surgery may be needed to replace one or both implants. After breast augmentation, the health of the breasts and the condition of the implants need to be monitored, even if there are no symptoms.
Can I breastfeed after breast reduction?
Breast reduction may limit the ability to breastfeed, although many women retain it. This risk is discussed before surgery. Pregnancy and weight fluctuations can also change the shape of the breasts after the procedure.
