Facial surgery includes procedures on different anatomical areas. Blepharoplasty concerns the eyelids; a facelift addresses age-related changes in the face and neck. An approach used for one area should not automatically be applied to another.
Types and aims
Eyelid area
Blepharoplasty may involve the upper or lower eyelids. Personal goals and the characteristics of this area are assessed during an individual consultation.
Face and neck
A facelift aims to address visible age-related changes. It does not stop natural ageing or replace an individual assessment of clinical indications.
Combining areas
Combining procedures requires a separate discussion. The name of a method alone does not determine an appropriate plan.

Frequently asked questions
Is a drooping upper eyelid always caused by excess skin?
No. Its appearance may be affected by a drooping brow and forehead tissues, as well as changes in the upper eyelid muscle. The latter may involve ptosis, which requires a different surgical approach. The examination therefore covers the surrounding areas as well as the eyelid skin.
Will a facelift remove every wrinkle?
A facelift primarily addresses sagging tissues of the face and neck, changes in the jawline and deepening folds. Skin quality and texture are a separate concern for which additional methods may be discussed. A facelift does not stop natural ageing.
What should I mention before eyelid surgery, besides my wishes about appearance?
Describe any eye problems, previous treatments and operations, medical conditions and medication allergies. A list of the medicines, vitamins and herbal supplements you take is also important. This information is needed to assess risks and discuss the options for surgery.
